At mealtime, you can sense whether the moment has a sense of “leisure.” Leisure makes life feel less rushed. In the leftover food on the plates, and in the simple act of taking a bite or two, happiness quietly spreads through the space.
Feelings are abstract, even intuitive, so we often overlook them. But our hearts and reactions never lie. Looking at the food, I remember the people and places connected to it, and I’m delighted to realize: I enjoy being with these people, I need this kind of time, and right now, I am simply being myself.
